[OSGeo Africa] big GIS tenders due 24 Feb

Hi all

 

This is very short notice but I hope someone in the FOSS GIS community
is mobilising for these and other Government tenders, especially ones
like these where ArcGIS is specified in the face of Govt's Open Source
policy:

 

WP10118: National Coordination and Data Consolidation of the Nine
Provincial Water Services Development Planning and Reference Framework
Programs

 

WP10119: Appointment of a PSP for integration of local government,
regional and national water resource data and processes into water
services development planning and national reference framework
structure. 

 

(both South Africa, Dept of Water Affairs and Forestry)

 

These specify ArcGIS 9 but surely a proposal that goes in saying yes, we
can do it in ArcGIS 9 to be 'compliant' but look at how much better and
cheaper, etc. etc. we can do it with FOSS GIS, has a fair chance of
getting some FOSS in the door. Unless someone can dangle the policy
stick - could a tender that defies policy like this be contested ?

 

If anyone comes across a tender where there's a gap for FOSS GIS list
please post to this list.
