[OSGeo Africa] Town Layer

Morning everyone,

The Chief Directorate: Integrated Spatial Planning in KwaZulu-Natal (KZN) of the Dept. of Rural Development & Land Reform undertook a Rural Settlements and Urban Edges Project in 2014/ 2015. The resultant dataset can be requested from them.

The project also resulted in a seminal postulation of a Settlement Typology that is adapted to KZN by Prof Mike Kahn. In my opinion, the report is well worth reading to follow the arguments that led to the formulation of this typology.

I suspect that other provinces have completed similar studies.

Regards,

Mike Caister

Subject: [OSGeo Africa] Town Layer

HI All

I have received a request from for a “ town” layer, a spatial unit larger than a “suburb”, outlining the outside of towns. Can anyone advise please.
