I don’t take any specific public position on the content of the map but the technical considerations and cartography are interesting I think and hopefully of general interest to those on this list since it pertains both to Africa and OSGEO. Having a good understanding of pre-colonial political / tribal boundaries would probably contribute a lot to a more informed debate in the South African context too. I wonder if anyone knows of public pre-colonial political boundary datasets like this that I can open in my trusty QGIS and share on online?
