The Department of Geography, Geoinformatics and Meteorology from the
University of Pretoria, South Africa is in participating in the World
Commons Week (6-12 October 2019) by hosting a Local Event Workshop about
the content management system – GeoNode.

*What is GeoNode?*
GeoNode is a web-based application and platform for developing geospatial
information systems (GIS) and for deploying spatial data infrastructures
(SDI). It is a platform for the management and publication of geospatial
data and does so by bringing together mature open source software projects
under an easy to use interface. GeoNode offers the ability for
non-specialised users to share data and create interactive maps.

*What will be covered?*
The workshop will be more focused towards Users and Administrators by
focusing on best practices for GeoNode in instances such as uploading data
with metadata by users and customising your GeoNode by administrators.

   - User:
   - Publish raster, vector and tabular data.
      - Manage metadata and associated documents.
      - Creating simple static maps.
      - Creating multi-layer interactive web maps.
      - Sharing and embedding maps within web pages.
      - Data security and privacy.
      - Securely or publicly share data.
      - Versioned geospatial data editor.
   - Admin
   - Customizing your GeoNode by themes.
      - Editing the home landing page.
      - Creating and editing users and groups.
      - Changing access tokens for a more secure GeoNode.
      - Creating user messages for warning purposes.

*Who can attend?*
Anyone can attend! Anyone who is interested in learning about the world of
Free and Open Source Software (FOSS) or has an interest in learning about
content management systems for research or commercial data.

*What is the cost of attending? *
The workshop is free to attend meaning there is no cost involved for
attending the workshop.
