Second Call to host AfricaGIS 2013
Here is an exciting opportunity to host AfricaGIS™ 2013. AfricaGIS™ is the continent’s premier conference and exhibition focusing on geoinformation science and technology in Africa. The principal objective of AfricaGIS™ is to provide a platform for geo-information professionals from Africa to learn about geo-information science and technology and its applications. This unique conference, operated on a not-for-profit basis, provides a forum for geo-information professionals to meet, interact, and showcase new developments, products and emerging trends and technologies. It also provides a unique opportunity for interaction among practitioners to share information and knowledge to advance the development and application of geo-information science and technologies to meet African developmental needs. The event has been held in Abidjan, Côte d’Ivoire (1995), Gaborone, Botswana (1997), Accra, Ghana (1999), Nairobi, Kenya (2001) ; Dakar, Senegal (2003), South Africa, Tshwane (2005), Ouagadougou, Burkina Faso (2007) , Kampala, Uganda (2009).
EIS-AFRICA (see: www.eis-africa.org) oversees the management of the AfricaGIS™ brand and ensures continuity and international support. The international organising committee (IOC) of AfricaGIS™ has historically also included the African Association of Remote Sensing for the Environment (AARSE). Countries interested in hosting AfricaGIS™ 2013 are requested to provide a brief statement of their interest (1-2 pages) in writing, to the EIS-AFRICA secretariat. This proposal should identify the lead organisation within the country, which will serve as a contact point with the IOC, and indicate the way in which relevant interest groups in the country will be engaged and involved in the organisation of the conference and exhibition. Broad ideas on the conference theme and sub-theme, the conference programme and suitable facilities for the conference i.e. conference venues, hotels etc. should be included. The bidder should provide evidence of the ability to organise a successful international conference as well as evidence of local fundraising experience. Please note that EIS-AFRICA will only be calling on Southern and Eastern bids to host AfricaGIS™ 2013. Countries that have hosted AfricaGIS™ in the past may bid again. Please submit your application to the EIS-AFRICA Secretariat (secretariat@eisafrica.org) by Friday, 30 March 2012.
