The Faculty of Science at the University of Zurich jointly with the Swiss
Federal Institute of Aquatic Science and Technology (Eawag) invite
applications for an

Assistant Professor Tenure Track in Remote Sensing of Water Systems

in order to join our team of experts on Earth observation in the broader
context of water systems with a focus on the liquid or gas phase of water.

We seek innovative applicants with a strong record in research and
teaching, who will strengthen our existing interests in remote sensing,
specifically as applied to regional or global water resources,
ecohydrology, or aquatic ecosystems. Applicants with a background in remote
sensing and interests in theory, experiments or modeling to asses water
systems are particularly encouraged to apply.

The successful candidate is expected to develop a complementary and
independent research program on remote sensing of water systems.
Contributing to the existing undergraduate and graduate teaching efforts in
Geography and Earth System Science will also constitute an integral part of
the position. The successful candidate is further expected to acquire
external funding. The successful applicant will be located at the
University of Zurich with an affiliation at Eawag and is expected to
establish a research group across both institutions.

The University of Zurich and Eawag provide generous research support,
including earmarked funds for personnel and running expenses, and
competitive start-up packages. Zurich’s scientific environment includes a
rich spectrum of research activities in remote sensing, aquatic research
and life sciences and provides extensive opportunities for collaborations
with research groups at the Faculty of Science of the University of Zurich,
Eawag, as well as teams at the nearby ETH Zurich. The University of
Zurich, Eawag and the city of Zurich also offer a stimulating cultural
environment and are family-friendly.

Application packages should include a one-page summary; motivation letter;
a full curriculum vitae; a vision statement of research and teaching
interests outlining major unsolved problems and how they could be tackled;
and the names and addresses of three potential referees (see
http://www.mnf.uzh.ch/RSWS/ for guidelines). Documents should be addressed
to Prof. Bernhard Schmid, Dean of the Faculty of Science, University of
Zurich, and submitted as a single PDF file to jobs a mnf.uzh.ch by May 15,
2015. For further information, please contact Prof. Dr. Michael Schaepman
at Michael.Schaepman a geo.uzh.ch or Prof. Dr. Janet Hering at
Janet.Hering a eawag.ch.

The University of Zurich and Eawag are equal opportunities employers.
