Dear Jeff,
I feel it is nor the proper way nor the right timing nor a good idea to resign from your position.

First, the way to do it, I feel you should give informations on what explain your sudden resignation. I suppose that something happened during the today board meeting explaining it, nevertheless how we can know as you never said a word about the « why » you resign. I think the proper way to resign may be to explain all the good you make for OSGeo, then explain what make you think that you should resign, then say that you want to resign. Speaking openly is ok but, speaking impulsively is not.

Second, the timing, I think it may be better that you stay in place and think about this until the f2f board meeting in Amsterdam. You can inform the board members about your final decision before or during the f2f meeting, then the board will decide the way to handle this. It gives more time for the board to organize and to handle the change properly. The board can then announce clearly what explain the election of a new president to the community.

To finish, I feel it is not a good idea to resign for the understanding of the position and the support you have from the community.

With all my support,
Best regards,

I shared, I learned, I made mistakes, I laughed, I cried, I thanked, I spoke, I yelled, I met, I answered emails, I tried my hardest way beyond my abilities and means, I gave my life and health, I spoke of "community" around the world long before it became cool to do so, I, I tried to always represent the community. What I did most though, was listen. I listened.
