                                                <h3><span class="rss-title"> MapGuide: Logo and Mascot Contest Starts!</span></h3>

                                                        Do you have a flair for the artistic?

                                                        The MapGuide Open Source project needs creative minds to help develop the "look" for the new MapGuide technology. In return you will receive recognition, the satisfaction that comes from helping the cause, and $150 worth of free swag featuring the new logo (sometime after the contest closes, obviously) and a 30g video iPod. <a href="http://store.apple.com/1-800-MY-APPLE/WebObjects/AppleStore.woa/wo/1.RSLID?mco=CC4D3CBB&nclm=iPod">[1]</a> We are looking for something similar to other open source sites with professional logos and a cool mascot.

                                                                The Open Source Geospatial Foundation is pleased to announce the results
                                                                of the election to fill the four remaining seats on the OSGeo Board of
                                                                Directors.  This election is another significant step in the development
                                                                of OSGeo. As many members of the community stated, the slate of nominees
                                                                was extremely strong and it was a difficult task to choose from among
                                                                them.
                                                </p>
                                                <p>
                                                        With 97% of the OSGeo voting membership submitting ballots, the
                                                        following persons have been elected to the board:

                                                <p>Summary: In the domain of cartography and geospatial analysis, the term "Open Source" has an important meaning not simply for software, but for data, as well. In the absence of detailed and comprehensive data to work with, the utility of geospatial software becomes drastically reduced. The current petition at http://petition.publicgeodata.org/ aims at rejecting the directive proposal by the European Parliament. The INSPIRE Directive risks holding back the economic and social potential in maps and location-based technology in Europe by many years. The OSGeo Foundation supports the petition at publicgeodata.org. <a href="content/news/news_archive/support4publicgeodata20060312.html">Read more...</a>

                                                <b>MapGuide Open Source Project is now Online</b>
                                                <p>MapGuide Open Source is now available as an <a href="https://mapguide.osgeo.org">active open source project</a>. You can participate as a user or application developer by downloading and installing the software, building applications, participating in online discussions, reporting defects, and making enhancement requests. We also invite you to participate by getting involved as a developer, making direct code contributions, fixing defects, working on enhancements, and getting involved in the future direction of the product.

                                                <p><b>Secondary Voting Membership process complete</b>
                                                <p>We have completed the second <a href="http://wiki.osgeo.org/index.php/Membership_Process">voting member selection process</a>, and have added an <a href="/content/news/news_archive/membership_20060304.html">additional 24 voting members</a> to the foundation.
                                                </p>
                                                <p>An associate membership process is currently being worked on.  We would like to stress that while the foundation needs a voting membership in order to insure that a board which is reasonably representative of the broad community is selected, in essentially all other ways anyone can contribute equally to the work of the foundation.
