By investing here OSGeo will interfere, something we usually consider a no-go.<br>* Personally I do not think that we should package Microsoft binaries because through this we support a proprietary platform. (If Microsoft becomes a major sponsor this is a different thing).<br>* Instead we should educate people how to use FOSS operating systems. So back<br>end service support (SAC), community events (FOSS4G, etc),<br>promotion (marketing).<br><br>I like to think of packaging as an adjunct to marketing. We are<br>trying to make it as easy as possible for people to use and<br>deploy the software. For sponsors who would use the packaged<br>versions I feel like this could be a great value-add.<br><br>I have taken the liberty of trimming the cc:es. It is hard to have an<br>ongoing discussion across many mailing lists.
