Hi Daniel,

I quite understand what you're saying about pointing people to Nottingham two years in a row- I hesitated before asking. If it makes sense, we can have it as a backup in case no other options come along.

After seeing the note from the Beijing FOSS4G 2012 list I have been wondering the same thing: What are our alternatives for the OSGeo Annual General Meeting (AGM), Sol Katz, benchmarking, etc?

Nottingham/OSGIS is one option (sounds like the obvious one), thank you for suggesting it. However if we go that route then we'd be pointing people there two years in a row. Maybe not that big a deal, but before settling on that option I'd like to see what our other options are... and if we have any practical way to make the AGM and Sol Katz happen in Asia even if that means having less participants for this year.

Another option that was mentioned in the Beijing email is The Asian Geospatial Forum, September 2012, Hanoi, Vietnam, which will have an OSGeo session. http://www.asiageospatialforum.org/ ... I have no idea whether they would be interested in hosting our AGM and Sol Katz events, and whether it has enough OSGeo taste and contents to attract enough people from the OSGeo core to make it a viable alternative.

There is also the Japanese chapter that usually has a conference in the fall. I don't follow them closely, but if I read the site right then it would have happened already ... last week... https://sites.google.com/site/foss4ghokkaido/

Are there other options that I didn't think of?

I'd suggest we take the next two days to discuss options on this list and then settle on something at the board meeting on Thursday.
Hi All,

Given the announcement about FOSS4G 2012, I was wondering if you all
felt that OSGIS in Nottingham would be a good venue for the AGM, Sol
Katz etc. It's 4th-5th of September, at almost the same venue as FOSS4G
will be next year (same campus but not same venue)- and we (the LOC)
were already planning to invite board members along to view the venue
and meet the committee.
What do you think?
