Hi Maxi,
For FOSS4G 2009, Sydney, OSGeo took 100% of the risk, and received
100% of the profit.
For FOSS4G 2012, Beijing, OSGeo took 0% of the risk, and didn't
loose anything when the conference was cancelled.
board, and conference committee,
To provide context, in 2009, at the end of the early bird
registration we had significantly fewer registrations than
projected, are we were looking to potentially suffer a $60K to
$70K loss.
With a lot of hard work, and nervous concern, we managed to
bring the conference back to a modest profit. However, I'd
suggest that a loss within the $50K to $150K range should be
considered possible, even with good management. A global
security scare, health scare, or financial crisis could easily
trigger such a loss.
Warm regards,
Hi Board,

Below is a question from Steven. Obviously I cannot
answer/approve this myself, we need input from the OSGeo
Board and Treasurer. I just logged into the online OSGeo
bank account, and I see 393,000 USD available (the Treasurer
would have to update us if some of that is promised
elsewhere, or if we are expecting more). Steve and Till:
how much funding should we have available to cover FOSS4G
2016?
