Responsibilities - External:

FM Global has two paid, 3-6 month GIS internship opportunities positions to offer to students that are motivated to apply their classroom experience, professional attitude, and personal ambition.  GIS Specialist Interns will support FM Global's GIS initiatives, including ad-hoc mapping requests, map data development/maintenance, and GIS environment support/enhancements.

At FM Global, you can expect to develop confidence and marketable skills by engaging in or assisting with many of the following activities:

 *   Corporate projects and related activities to provide assistance in advancing the utilization of GIS technologies, processes and procedures.
 *   Representing and promoting the GIS vision within the company.
 *   A variety of GIS mapping applications and projects.
 *   Selecting and acquiring the appropriate geospatial data and technology for spatial analysis.

Expected Results:
The GIS Specialist Intern will assist the team and potentially take the lead on GIS related projects which may include:

 *   Map data development/maintenance,
 *   Geospatial analysis for ad-hoc mapping requests,
 *   Cartographic consistency and improvements,
 *   New/existing map libraries,
 *   Implementation of new/updated procedures,
 *   Documentation of GIS techniques/procedures,
 *   Technical/operational support,
 *   Compliancy of GIS engine and standards.

Qualifications - External:

The ideal candidate should be prepared to show that they are:

 *   Currently be pursuing a degree in GIS, Geography, or a related discipline with a strong focus in GIS (e.g. Environmental Science, Planning, Computer Science, Engineering).
 *   Fundamental knowledge of GIS-related concepts, mapping techniques, products and geospatial industry practices, independent of software platform.
 *   Ability to keep pace with and integrate new trends, technologies, and standards in the GIS industry.
 *   Strong verbal & written communication skills, including the ability to bridge the gap between technical and non-technical staff.
 *   Ability to take direction and work independently or as part of a team to facilitate FM Global goals and objectives.
 *   Excellent organizational and time management skills: simultaneously work on, manage, and prioritize multiple tasks/projects, while meeting all deadlines and expectations.
 *   Self-starter with the desire and willingness to take the lead on a task.
 *   Must have a strong proficiency with MS Office tools, including Excel and Access.
 *   Complementary skills include VB.NET and/or C#, SQL, relational databases, ASP.NET, JavaScript, Bing Maps API development.
 *   Ability to learn new software and procedures a must.
