OK,

My feeling from this discussion is to stick with early July and possibly not to overlap with Inspire conference.

I still hear Karel's voice and understand his concerns. Anybody else would prefer earlier in the year?

Two things:

1) we will probably have a developer room at Fosdem (Brussels) next year in February. We have just started discussing the proposal [1] but due to the nature of FOSDEM a focus on developers and cooperation with other open source projects seems logical. So a great opportunity for those in need of a conference early in the year :-) In October we will now whether it will happen.

2) I think the goal of the committee should be to have a great conference every year. Maybe the main focus should be how you can make this happen by supporting the organizers). The reason I say this is because I'm not convinced that setting too many rules such as when the conference should happen, who should attend, ... will help reaching the goal. Perhaps a date can be recommended (takes some choice stress away), but I would certainly not exclude other proposals if they propose a different period.
