Actually, as it turns out, &quot;FOSS4G&quot; is not a registered trademark in the U.S. However, I think it could be defended as such through the principle of common usage. In any case, the naming options for local conferences are essentially:<div>
<br></div><div>FOSS4G-[region] {Regional Conference?}</div><div>OSGeo [region] Regional Meeting</div><div>[Organization XXX] Conference</div><div><br></div><div>Personally, I like the idea of &quot;FOSS4G-[region] Regional Conference&quot;. </div>
<div><br></div><div>Of course the Japanese event is called FOSS4G (<a href="http://arnulf.us/FOSS4G_2009_Tokyo">http://arnulf.us/FOSS4G_2009_Tokyo</a>)</div><div><br></div><div>Most importantly though, when the FOSS4G.org domain was provided to OSGeo, there were agreements in place about not restricting the use of the term:</div>

Hi all,<br>
<br>
quoting Jeff&#39;s remark to the mailing-list ticket [1]:<br>
<br>
&gt; - I think naming the list &#39;conference-cee&#39; is a good idea<br>
&gt; - as for any link to the &quot;FOSS4G&quot; name: this needs to be debated through<br>
&gt;  the Conference Committee (my personal views is that I am all for<br>
&gt; local...for example European or North American...events happening<br>
&gt; annually...but I am against the use of the &quot;FOSS4G&quot; name, as it is<br>
&gt; associated with the annual event (and I don&#39;t want to dilute/affect this<br>
&gt; annual event, that we have all worked so hard on through the years to make<br>
&gt; it what it is today).<br>
<br>
This is a question, which was raised already at FOSS4G (Denver). Whether and under which conditions &quot;we&quot; could use the FOSS4G trademark.<br>
<br>
I&#39;m just raising the question here, no matter which result the discussion will have. We just need things to be clarified.<br>
<br>
Thanks<br>
<br>
Jachym<br>
