I was alread in contact to JKUAT in Nairobi to organize such an
event (Dr. Moses Murimi Ngigi). JKUAT has its own conference
center.<br>
<br>
I am also in contact with Evans Ikua. He is Liaison Person for East
Africa at Free & Open Source Software Foundation for Africa.<br>
<br>
With AGSE 2012 / FOSS4G-SEA we did a similar approach as you
suggested. However we had two days decdicated to OS, filled with
keynotes, presentations, and a number of workshops finally with
founding an OSGeo Malaysian local chapter. IMHO a half day might be
too short.<br>

In any case I offer my contribution.<br>

lang="EN-GB">I would like suggest such idea, how to promote
OSGeo and FOSS GIS products in Africa. I think, that there
is interest for FOSS GIS products in many African countries
and there are used different products. But due financial
problems it is difficult for African colleagues to
participate on FOSS4G events.<o:p></o:p></span></p>

lang="EN-GB">Also there will be probably to organise
separate FOSS4G Africa event.<o:p></o:p></span></p>

lang="EN-GB">I would like suggest to organise FOSS4G related
workshop inside of existing event. I would like suggest to
use IST Africs (<a class="moz-txt-link-freetext" href="http://www.ist-africa.org/home/">http://www.ist-africa.org/home/</a> ) conference
and organise half or one day FOSS4G Africa workshop inside
of this event. There exist possibilities for such workshop
officially, but due my good relation with organisation of
this event, I can discuss eventually some more place. All it
depends on potential presenters. Usually audience of this
conference is from 300 – 500 participants, 60 – 70 % from
Africa. The audience is from politicians, researchers, but
also companies. So such event could well promote FOSS GIS in
Africa. <o:p></o:p></span></p>
<p class="MsoNormal"><span
style="font-size:11.0pt;font-family:"Calibri","sans-serif";color:#1F497D"
lang="EN-GB">If there will be common agreement and wiliness
of some speakers to come for this event, I am ready to start
work on it. In principle due the fact, that this will be
inside of existing event, it will not require any cost
except work of me and my colleagues to put program together,
what we are able to do.<o:p></o:p></span></p>
