Dear ConfComm,<br>
<br>
I've made a first draft abozut the travel grant programme in the
WIKI:<br>
<a class="moz-txt-link-freetext" href="https://wiki.osgeo.org/wiki/Draft_FOSS4G_Travel_Grants">https://wiki.osgeo.org/wiki/Draft_FOSS4G_Travel_Grants</a><br>
<br>
The thoughts are mainly base on the procedure we had for 2016 in
Bonn. Feel free to add/edit/discuss.<br>

<li class="">Grants should be partial i.e. the grantee has to
have some skin in the game. Perhaps we pay for conference
pass and a per diem towards accommodation and subsistence
but delegate pays travel cost (and has to show a confirmed
travel booking before receiving the conference pass etc, per
diems could be issued at the event)</li>
<li class="">Remember Jody’s suggestion to form a Travel Grant
Working Group (this will enable us to make budget requests
and we could co-opt a small number of people rater than
having everyone involved)</li>

<br class="">
@Steven, thanks for taking this over and also
participating on the board meeting. Indeed we should
have a "two-level" way of refinement. <br class="">
<br class="">
For the first kick off, I added an item into FOSS4G's
conference manual "travel grants":<br class="">
<a moz-do-not-send="true" class="moz-txt-link-freetext"
href="https://wiki.osgeo.org/wiki/FOSS4G_Handbook#Travel_Grants">https://wiki.osgeo.org/wiki/FOSS4G_Handbook#Travel_Grants</a><br
class="">
<br class="">
I agree with Cameron, that this is the place to store
it. <br class="">
<br class="">
The question is, how do we proceed? What I can do is to
write down FOSS4G 2016 LOC thoughts on this in a brief
manner and we start the discussion based on this? I can
link into a new WIKI page "preliminary thoughts on
travel grants", so people reading this do not think,
that the procedure is already fixed (what could be the
case, if we put it into the manual directly).<br
