Chris,

One of DM Solutions Group's first products was a tiled map in a web  
environment, that was back in the late 1990s ... it was certainly not  
as dynamic as the ones we see today, but it did load a map by slicing  
it into tiles.  Like Ed, we abandoned it due to technical limitations  
and have only recently come to embrace it again :)
