[OSGeo-Discuss] Georeferencing 1959 OS jpeg

Hi,
Simple. but which CRS do I set to georeference an 1959 OS jpeg. Started with 27700 and other auto suggested but each time my Points show magnitudes of error.  Stumbled on suggestion that EPSG:4277 was right but its alias distorted the horizontal.
Can any help please
