It's more of a notion of normalizing the data strucutre as well as the
development process, just build what absolutly needs to be built new
first, then work on speed and organizational aspects like storage and
formatting after the fact. Maybe I'm trying to push this idea too far

Hmm, I'm not sure I understand your point.
How do you imagine to implement a working functionality without having
any description of "how things work" decided?
It's like: let's implement function to save a geometry in the
memory/disk. Without knowing what kind of file format, what kind of file
system, what kind of I/O APIs we're going to use we can't implement any
such feature. Or am I missing something?
