Andrea Aime, a</div><div>long time member of the GeoServer Project Steering Committee (PSC), has</div><div>been appointed as project officer.</div><div><br></div><div>GeoServer (<a href="http://www.geoserver.org">http://www.geoserver.org</a>/) is an Open Source Java Web App</div><div>allowing users to publish, share and edit geospatial data. GeoServer is</div><div>well known for its ease of use, excellent documentation and active</div><div>development community. Designed for interoperability, GeoServer has</div><div>always had a strong base in open standards and is a reference</div><div>implementation of the OGC Web Feature and Web Coverage Services. It also</div><div>supports other well known standards such as the Web Map and Web</div><div>Processing service. GeoServer is supported by an easy-to-use web</div><div>configuration and a full REST API for configuration.</div><div><br></div><div>Graduating incubation (<a href="http://www.osgeo.org/incubator">http://www.osgeo.org/incubator</a>) includes</div><div>fulfilling requirements for open community operation, a responsible</div><div>project governance model, code provenance, and general good project</div><div>operation. Graduation is the OSGeo seal of approval for a project and</div><div>gives potential users and the community at large an added confidence in</div><div>the viability and safety of the project.</div><div><br></div><div>The project steering committee says, "The GeoServer team is thrilled to</div><div>be recognized as a full OSGEo project. There have been strong ties</div><div>between the two communities with GeoServer developers being involved as</div><div>charter members, volunteering at the committee level and represented in</div><div>local OSGeo chapters and helping with foss4g.
