I am pleased to share the info on 21-Day Training Programme on Geospatial Technology will be organised during November 14 to December 3, 2016 by GeoForAll lab and Faculty of Technology, CEPT University, Ahmedabad. The training programme is financially supported
by Department of Science and Technology (DST), Government of India.<br>
<br>
The training programme aims to generate an interest and create an awareness among the scientists, academia and researchers for the use of open source software for Geospatial Applications. The training would emphasises on dissemination of open-source IT and
geospatial software technologies, open data, and open standards by integration of these resources in teaching, research, governance and planning.<br>
<br>
Applications are invited from academia, researchers, government officers and non-government organisations. No fees would be charged. Accommodation will be provided on twin-sharing basis without any charges.<br>

I am happy to see that the Government of India and many state governments in India are taking many proactive steps to expand FOSS because of advantages like increasing interoperability, developing local capacity/ industry, reducing costs, achieving vendor independence,
enabling localization, reducing piracy/copyright infringements and increasing growth of knowledge-based society are among the compelling reasons for adopting FOSS. India’s strength in Information Technology can be utilized to develop products using FOSS which
will help in bridging the digital divide with significant cost savings and facilitate the creation of a knowledge society. Indian industry/SMEs can benefit from the liberal licensing norms of FOSS which enables software to be freely modified and distributed
