Hi Rafael,

Massimo suggested to use the famous IRC, which is a text based chat
tool. It does not have audio or video features, but it always work, in
any platform, even at the command line. Chatzilla, mentioned by Massimo,
is a Firefox plugin able to connect to the IRC network. Almost all
FOSS4G projects have IRC channels open, to answer users questions.
You can check more on this on http://wiki.osgeo.org/wiki/IRC

It can be used as a backup technology, if something fails with Phil's
proposal (with audio and video support).

Regards,

Jorge Gustavo

I’d like to see us work to get funds for a workshop to get us face-to-face to work on this issue (as well as maybe a conference on open source GIS for education). So the 2011-2012 goal would be to get funds to hold such an international workshop to figure this out.
