Julian Tenney (Open Nottingham) gave a presentation on Xerte today and i was very impressed by the functionality. It made me think that there might be opportunities in using this in our plans for FOSS4G workbook creation. Brief overview of Xerte below.
Xerte - open source elearning, provides a full suite of open source tools for elearning developers and content authors producing interactive learning materials. Xerte provides a visual, icon-based authoring environment that allows learning objects to be easily created with the minimum of scripting. Functionality that would be time-consuming to develop from scratch in other tools can be created very quickly in Xerte. Xerte Online Toolkits is a powerful suite of browser-based tools that allow anyone with a web browser to log on and create interactive learning materials easily. Xerte Online Toolkits provides a number of project templates for creating online presentations and interactive content. Content is assembled using an intuitive interface, and multiple users can collaborate on shared projects.

Subject: [OSGeo-Edu] BOF feather discussion at 5:30 pm Denver time today
Dear OSGeo Edu community -- for those of you getting emails while in Denver:
Proposed BOF meeting agenda (happening today at 5:30-6:30pm Denver time)
Our BOF meeting goal should be centered on identifying how we as a group can move forward.
5:30-5:40: Summary of activities by U of Nottingham (Suchith) - 10 minutes (skyping in)
5:40-5:50: Summary of activities by Phil Davis (GeoTech center, Demar College) - 10 minutes
Discussion of two "grand goals" for 2011-2012
1) The production of a FOSS4G workbook that coincides with the LiveDVD project that will undoubtedly be produced in preparation for FOSS4G 2012.
2) A discussion about how the grand vision of building a network of open source GIS labs/research centers internationally. I'd like to see us work to get funds for a workshop to get us face-to-face to work on this issue (as well as maybe a conference on open source GIS for education). So the 2011-2012 goal would be to get funds to hold such an international workshop to figure this out.
Finally, we need five minutes to talk about the report out for the session later at the conference.
Talk to some of you soon!
