Dear All,

This year we will have the first European Conference of FOSS4G. The Conference will take place in Bremen, July 15 - 17, 2014 at the Jacobs University. This year's conference is under the motto "Independent Innovation for INSPIRE and Big Data". More details at http://www.foss4g-e.org/

We want to highlight you two topics that could be of interest:

1) The Academic Track (deadlines: for abstract submission: 15 April 2014; for full paper submission: 22 April 2014) chaired by Prof. Maria Brovelli and Prof.Peter Baumann. FOSS4G-Europe invites original research contributions on all aspects of open-source geo software and its application, and particularly encourage submissions focusing on the special topics INSPIRE and Big Data. All types of papers are welcome, such as on results achieved, case studies, work in progress, and demos. We discourage, however, mere presentations of technology or use cases without properly justifying originality against the scientific state of the art and particular outcomes of the work. All submissions will be assessed by the Program Committee on their overall quality (such as originality and clarity) and relevance.

In collaboration with the following high-ranking journals, outstanding contributions will be published in a special issue of high-impact journals; we have made arrangement with the following journals:

*             Applied Geomatics
* European Journal of Remote Sensing
* International Journal of Spatial Data Infrastructures Research

Details at http://kahlua.eecs.jacobs-university.de/~foss4g-europe/?q=academic-track

2) The general meeting of EU Labs of the "Geo For All" Network (for discussing about EU Horizon 2020 projects, COST Actions and other common initiatives ) chaired by Prof. Maria Brovelli and which will take place during the conference. It is also an opportunity for new labs to know more about the initiative and join.

Though country wise USA has the largest number of ICA-OSGeo labs as of now , region wise Europe is the biggest growth area for the ICA-OSGeo labs (over 25 labs now established and in track for establishing 50 research labs in Europe by the end of this year) .

We hope to see there many of you there for discussions and to better coordinate our activities and developments at the European level.

Best wishes,

Suchith
