Here is a project we have been working on:

Minnesota Interactive Internet Mapping (MIIM):
Open Source Web Mapping in
K-16 Education

MIIM is a web-based application that introduces K-12 and post-secondary
students to principles of geography and GIS. MIIM makes use of several
open-source projects, including Mapbender, MapServer, and PostgreSQL.

You can look at our project site at <A

with several elementary schools and have held sessions where kids come to our
campus for a mini lesson on GIS, a visit to the map library, and GeoWall (3D map
projection).

We have a link on the site to other web mapping sites related to teaching
K-12 students.

Hi all,

I am looking at developing material to introduce GIS and
Mapping for Students in Elementary and Secondary schools. One of the
things I have noticed in the material that has been developed is that it is
geared more for university and college students. One of the areas that
needs to be developed is teaching materials for elementary and secondary school
teachers. In the future there is going to be a lack of people in the GIS
community with the proper background in mapping and GIS. If we introduce
these concepts at an earlier age then a greater interest in this technology will
develop in later years. If anyone has any suggestions or comments please
speak up.
