I'm forwarding this message from the gdal mailing list.<br>
<br>
IIRC, we already agreed to upgrade libtiff to libtiff4, see
<a class="moz-txt-link-freetext" href="http://lists.osgeo.org/pipermail/el/2011-December/000839.html">http://lists.osgeo.org/pipermail/el/2011-December/000839.html</a>.<br>

I hope I will find some spare time in the next days to dedicate to
this.<br>

Thanks you, Even<br>

<pre>Selon Peter Hopfgartner <a class="moz-txt-link-rfc2396E" href="mailto:peter.hopfgartner@r3-gis.com"><peter.hopfgartner@r3-gis.com></a>:
I'm not sure of your exact plans, but if you want to switch to internal libtiff
4 with GDAL 1.8.1, you might get into problems with applications that link both
with GDAL and external libtiff 3.9, because of symbol conflicts. If you switch
your external libtiff to libtiff 4, no problem of course.
If you still want to both keep external libtiff to libtiff 3.9 and use internal
libtiff 4 within GDAL, I'd strongly recommand upgrading to GDAL 1.9.0 and using
the new --with-rename-internal-libtiff-symbols and
--with-rename-internal-libgeotiff-symbols configure flags, of course combined
with --with-libtiff=internal and --with-geotiff=internal. This will avoid
symbols conflicts. FYI, the UbuntuGIS team is also planning to do so soon.
