[fdo-internals] Notice of SVN "transition" this weekend.

Hi all,

The OSGeo SVN services will be undergoing some maintenance this weekend.
Howard will be moving the SVN host from being an alias for the
www.osgeo.org domain into its own virtual host, and removing the need to
have /svn/ in the path. This is part of a long-term strategy by SAC to
move away from using aliases to remove the wildcard DNS entry for
*.osgeo.org.

So, while before the switch you were able to access the repositories as
(e.g.):

https://svn.osgeo.org/svn/fdo/

After the switch you will also be able to access these with the
preferred url of (e.g.):

https://svn.osgeo.org/fdo/

There may be up to a day's delay before these changes are visible to
everyone, as the osgeo.org DNS currently has a one day TTL and the IP
address of svn.osgeo.org will be changing as part of this. However,
once the changes have propagated, I would strongly recommend switching
your local repositories to access the new URL, especially if you are
taking advantage of the wildcard DNS to use a nonstandard URL (such as
www or no host name at all) to access the repositories.

If you do not transition, you run the risk of having to check out a
clean copy of the repository from the canonical URL and manually merge
any outstanding work when the wildcard DNS entries are removed in the
indeterminate future.

After the changeover Howard will be providing some svn switch commands
that you can use to modify your local repositories.

Jason
