[fdo-internals] Additional library upgrade: boost

I also want to validate that we are building only the target of boost
that we need.

Is it correct that we need to build the static-link multi-threaded
target?

Here are the bjam options I was planning to use:

	bjam toolset=msvc variant=debug/release runtime-link=static
threading=multi --without-serialization

On Windows, this would result in a build directory such as:

C:\fdo_trunk\Thirdparty\boost_1_34_1\bin.v2\libs\date_time\build\msvc-8.
0\debug\link-static\runtime-link-static\threading-multi\

And a library named:

	libboost_date_time-vc80-mt-sgd-1_34_1.lib

Is this ok?

Greg

Boost 1_34_1 is quite a large file set. Do we need to drop all the files
in the distribution tar file into Thirdparty? Can we identify and submit
only the files we really need to drop?

Hi,

Earlier, Greg asked if there were any additional libraries that should
be considered for upgrade.

I'd like to propose that the boost libraries be updated to the latest
1.34.1 release. The version which we are using (1.32.0) is now almost
three years old, and in that time significant improvements in
performance and stability have been made. More information on each
interim release is available here:

http://sourceforge.net/project/showfiles.php?group_id=7586&package_id=80
41

Also, looking through the libraries, it may be a good idea to determine
whether it's important to upgrade OpenSSL to the latest version. I
don't know enough about it to evaluate the security implications of
this:
