 There are cases when an existing SHP file contains invalid FDO geometries,
 like geometries with no points. This may happen with files produced by
 ESRI tools. Currently SHP is issuing assertions. It should handle
 gracefully such cases, like turning the corrupted geometries into null
 geometries which the client code will ignore.
