I recommend switching to use the FDO PostgreSQL Provider. The PostGIS Provider is no longer being supported.

Subject: [fdo-users] Problems with FDO: PostGIS Provider

Hi all,

I'm using the FDO PostGIS ("OSGeo.PostGIS.3.5") provider to connect to my
PostGreSQL 8.4 + Postgis database.
The database encoding is UTF-8, Current Culture of my application is
{sv-SE},  but when i try to create a new FeatureSchema with
FeatureClass.Name = "Örebrö" and PropertyDefinition property.Name =
"Operatör" the schema is created with incorrect characters and I get an
exception.

It seems that PostGIS provider has problem with locale-dependent string
conversion.

In phpPgAdmin I can see:
"SQL Error:
ERROR: invalid byte sequence for encoding "UTF8": 0xe39672
HINT: This error can also happen if the byte sequence does not match the
encoding expected by the server, which is controlled by "client_encoding"."

Any ideas?

Thank in advance
Hanko
