[FOSS-GPS] RTKlib begginer's question

I am looking for a not expensive receiver and was thinking about openmoko
free runner as well. The main reason is because it is possible to use
external antenna.
I was trying to find some information about how to get raw data from the gps
module? Do I need to use modified firmware, is it available for download?
