<p>I agree with John, we have seen exemplar examples of positive and
collaborative ideas among this group. We have what it takes to
lead by example, and I believe we are already doing so.</p>
<p>We can set up collaborative opportunities. We can very publicly
invite ESRI and ESRI delegates to join us in these opportunities
(such as putting a story into the Spatial Source magazine).</p>
<p>Hopefully ESRI will rise to match us.</p>
<p>John, I can help with copy and the occasional contact with
regards to Marketing.<br>

various ESRI folks. I did discuss the below with the new
ESRI OGC lead. It is not an issue for ESRI Inc. to resolve.
In terms of sponsorship they would be looking at ESRI
Australia to follow-up on. It is unlikely that they would
send anybody.

</div>
<div>I suggest we follow on from Johns comments and business
as usual. I think having both Ozri and FOSS4G conference
in the same day/week may cause some issues, but it also
opens up a whole lot of new opportunities. In particular
it is only one day so we can make some effort in
attracting OZRI attendees to FOSS4G (1 day ticket for
example).</div>

<div>I think it is unlikely that ESRI AU would agree to a
joint social activity (but worth asking). Maybe we fit in
a Georabble?</div>

don't need to concern ourselves with whether that's

</div>
<div>I'm inspired by the positivity of this group,
thanks for the constructive suggestions!
<div><br>
</div>
<div>
<div>So far we have:</div>
<div>- invite them to a panel</div>
<div>- attempt to draw OZRI participants to day 2
with a 1 day ticket</div>
<div>- a joint social event</div>
</div>
</div>
<div>- inviting their participation in the community
day</div>
<div><br>
</div>
<div>And to this, I'll add:</div>
<div>- open workshop registrations to OZRI attendees
(or even the general public, for that matter)</div>
<div><br>
</div>
<div>Anything else to add to this list for
consideration?</div>
<div><br>
</div>
<div>There are also potential opportunities for us to
use this situation to promote our event more broadly
to the Australian spatial community. It may be that
a little light-hearted controversy over the date
conflict could draw some attention to our event that
we wouldn't otherwise get.</div>
<div><br>
</div>
<div>I feel it's important to keep in mind that, while
there's clearly a collaborative opportunity here,
there is also a competitive dimension that we need
to stay aware of. There is the potential to lose
attendees to OZRI, and for some, it may be difficult
to decide between the 2. So, I suggest we need to
articulate our value proposition clearly, to make
sure we capture the attention of those who aren't
necessarily firmly in either the open source world
or the Esri world. Perhaps a task for the marketing
& promotion working group to execute? This
hasn't been an especially active group, and consists
of Greg (lead), Daniel, and myself - as the people
who put their hands up at the beginning for this.
Anyone else intrigued and wish to join this group?</div>
