            <div dir="ltr">Hi folks,
              <div><br>
              </div>
              <div>We had a brief discussion at this week's committee
                meeting about the GeoRabble event planned for the
                Thursday eve during the week of our event. The Melbourne
                GeoRabble organisers are scoping out venues
                (particularly the Clyde Hotel in Carlton, very close to
                the Uni) and they're keen to put it on.</div>
              <div><br>
              </div>
              <div>One of the key parts of getting a GeoRabble event off
                the ground is finding a sponsor, which covers the cost
                of some modest catering, usually some snacks/food
                platters. The GR crew have asked if our event would be
                willing to sponsor, to the tune of $750.</div>
              <div><br>
              </div>
              <div>I may be a bit biased because I'm involved in the
                Melbourne GeoRabble, but I'm inclined to be supportive.
                I think it helps us extend our reach beyond the
                conference itself, to a wider geospatial audience,
                including potentially some people who might be in town
                for the OZRI event. Also, the organisers have expressed
                support for an 'open' themed GeoRabble, so I feel it
                would be a worthwhile event to support. They've been
                very accommodating by working around our schedule, and
                gave me a platform to tout our conf a few weeks ago.</div>
              <div><br>
              </div>
              <div>I'm of the opinion that our finances can support this
                expenditure - our expenses are looking to be lower than
                predicted, our expenses higher.</div>
              <div><br>
              </div>
              <div>On the other hand, it could be argued that if we
                don't support it, it may happen anyway, and perhaps we
                shouldn't be in the business of supporting other events
                using our own sponsors' and participants' money.</div>
              <div><br>
              </div>
              <div><b>So, the motion is that we agree to sponsor
                  GeoRabble Melbourne for their event on the 22nd of
                  November in the amount of $750.</b></div>
