Good question.

Yes, last year attendees weren't charged, but there was a £20
recommended donation. We had a number of no-shows, so were toying with a
small payment for tickets (can't remember how much) but this is still up
for discussion.

Yes - sponsorship covered catering and room hire costs. We had local
sponsors (for the local venue) as well as national sponsors (for the
whole event). See attached PDF for the packages we offered. Each local
venue chair coordinated their venue sponsorship, and I/Matt coordinated
the national sponsorship.

Ideally we would like local sponsors to have already got some sponsors
on board before confirming bookings, but we (OSGeo:UK) can underwrite
costs.

I think nearly all venues covered their costs. I know Manchester didn't,
so we need to send some money to Jonny for this.

Typically if an org hosted the venue (e.g. OS, BGS, UoGlasgow, etc.) we
gave them a 'local sponsor' listing in exchange for the venue (with no
money changing hands). In fact, BGS then also gave us some money as
well, so we gave them a national sponsor slot as well (as it was >£1000
I think, I would need to check the details).

Numbers at each venue were decided locally, and then tickets were sold
centrally. We had one Eventbrite page which people booked on, and a
different option for each location (each with difference caps).

Hope this helps!

Best wishes,
Nick.
