is getting difficult
to read with all the changes:

1. In the second
paragraph there is a 'used' that should be 'use':
While Free and Open Source

appreciate if we could include "Land information and
administration
(cadastre, address data, etc.)" under the second list of
topics. One
more topic in that long list will not change the general
topic of the
conference. As you know, address data is my pet topic :-).

3. My
suggestion for this sentence in the paragraph on the Academic Track
is given
below.
The date of submission for abstracts of 500-600 words to the

will be reviewed
by the Program Committee of the academic track of FOSS4G
2008.

4. Looks like a typo in the third last sentence ('be' should be
'been'):
Please note that your paper or presentation will only be included in
the
proceedings once your registration to the conference has ***be***
received
in full.

In response to your questions:
--> Yes, of
course, you have a choice. It's all up to you. If you think
you

the same goes for the SACJ review.

I agree that the call can go out
now, but the website should be ready
before you send out any e-mails. For
example, for the academic track only
'Peer Reviewed' should be checked on the
Track Policies, the timeline
should be updated, and what is "Proposal
Submission"? Should it be
"Abstract Submission"??? I see you
forwarded my earlier e-mail to Gavin.
I was not able to figure out how to
modify those things on the website
(and maybe I'm not supposed to be able to
modify them but someone should).

Will you let me know the e-mail

Cooper'
> Subject: FOSS4G Call for papers
>
>
>
>
Hi there,
>
>
>
> Attached another (hopefully final)
version of the call for papers. Some
> issues around the dates and
reviewing for SACJ:
>
>
>
>
>
> 1.
Dates
>
> I changed the acceptance notification date to 17
June. Antony and I are
> at
> ISO in the last week of May, in
fact I am away from 21-31 May therefore
> end
> of May is not a good
date and 21 May is too soon after 30 April to have
> completed the
reviews. Also we are running out of time from now until 30
> April
for people to submit abstracts. Because I moved the acceptance
>
notification date later to 17 June, I also moved the abstract submission
>
date to 12 May, which now gives us more time to chase people up to
submit
> abstracts. Between 12 and 21 May I would have enough time
to scan through
> the abstracts and start sending out some of them for
review. From what I
> gathered from Antony, we could as you have
done in the past, do the bulk
> of
> the reviews on one day,
hopefully somewhere in the week of 9-13 June.
> Could
> the two of
you confirm that you can keep at least one day open for
>
reviewing
> in that week?
>
>
>
>
>
>
2. SACJ
>
> When we review the abstracts, the program committee
(which at this time is
> the two of you and me but we will invite a few
more people) has to compile
> a
> short list of abstracts that would
be suitable for publication in SACJ. I
> confirmed with the editor,
Derrick Kourie, that our topics are OK for
> inclusion in SACJ: "SACJ is a
platform for IT-related research in South
> Africa" (in his words).
The papers that are submitted for these short
> listed abstracts will then
have to be properly reviewed by at least three
> reviewers, and once these
three reviewers are satisfied with the paper, it
> will be published in
SACJ (so SACJ uses us to relieve their reviewing work
> load :-)). I
would recommend that we limit the short list to 5 abstracts,
> otherwise
the reviewing gets extensive (however I don't want to mention a
> number
in the call for papers, just in case there are none that are good).
>
Would the two of you be prepared to assist in this reviewing for
SACJ?
>
>
>
>
>
>
>
>
