Contrary to popular belief, I am not subscribed to most lists :)  I 
tried, but got buried and had to step back.  I focus primarily on the 
Discuss, Announce and a few other internal lists and news channels.  I 
do track a few local chapters as they develop, but aside from that we 
are relying significantly on the lead project contacts to get the word 
out beyond the discuss list.

Re: RSS and Twitter - when I post an OSGeo News Item - it goes into the 
OSGeo RSS feed, which in turn automagically feeds a twitter update. 
This helps kill a few birds with one stone.  If you've got a foss4g 2009 
twitter feed, then a similar approach may be useful there too.
