Hi all,

I've been lurking around this 2009 conference mailing list for some time, and just sent a note to Cameron about academic participation from far across the ocean here in Idaho.

Several of us attended 2006 and had a fantastic experience. Then missed 2007 (due to a new baby who joined our family on the opening day of the conference) and unfortunately can't swing 2008. So I'm determined to attend 2009 and would like to help out in any way possible.

It's great to tote along our little research project, MapWindow GIS, as the "token" Microsoft .NET based open source GIS at these conferences. We just hit the 100,000 download mark and people keep asking me why we're not more visible in OSGeo. So perhaps helping with the conference will be a step in the right direction.

I noted in my note to Cameron that Idaho State University can also be a sponsor at some level, so that's something else to work into the discussion.

So for now, here's my official "hello" and I look forward to contributing to this effort.

Thanks

- Dan

On Mon, Mar 31, 2008 at 5:18 PM, Cameron Shorter <cshorter@lisasoft.com> wrote:

Yes, I'd love to see engagement from overseas. I'd expect it to greatly strengthen the conference.

Do you mind CCing your response to the foss4g2009 email list so others can be involved in the discussion.
Cameron,

Would you be interested in academic supporters from across the ocean? I'm a geosciences professor here at Idaho State University, and am looking forward to FOSS4G 2009 as an international conference opportunity and would be willing to help in any way needed. We have some limited financial resources we could put towards this as well if there are any specific sponsorship needs...
Hello Professor Linlin GE,

It was nice to meet you recently and discuss the potential for the
University of NSW School of Surveying and Spatial Information
Systems to
get involved in the development of the 2009 conference for Free
and Open
Source Software for Geospatial (FOSS4G) which will be held at the
UNSW.

Details about the conference are currently at:
Sydney's successful proposal is available here:

We have just starting the selection of a Professional Conference
Organisor (PCO) now. We would love to have your involvement in
this. We
currently have representation from Industry and Government
sectors, but
no Academic sector yet. If someone is free to help, please let me know
and I will forward through the relevant documents to review, and
ensure
you are invited to the face-to-face PCO interviews.

I've written further ideas for involvement here:
