hi Bruce and Raj,
I personally consider an honour to have the CCIP event inside FOSS4G2010.
I consider it a strategic event for both OGC and OSGeo.
In this moment I need to publish the Sponsorship Prospectus and would like to know what make sense to write into it.
Please, tell me if you still want to be part of FOSS4G. doors are open for you.
If you want to participate, I agree about having two different lines of sponsorship. It makes poor sense to me to collect money for OGC. Please provide, ASAP, a text that introduce CCIP 2010 and how sponsors can support it.
do you still need somebody from the spanish meteo?
We will begin making contingency plans and look at alternate events
GSDI-12 is one possible alternative. It is also perhaps a better fit
Subject: RE: [Foss4g2010] Sponsorship Prospectus
[SEC=UNCLASSIFIED]

G'day Tyler,

I will put something together as soon as we're able.

I have a call with Raj on Tuesday where we will discuss the
best way to answer this. We will be preempting CCIP community
discussion. Let me know if you need more than this email in
the short term.

Suffice to say that we aim to have a much more structured
project approach to the 2010 event, with more time for
planning and project delivery. I would ideally like to have a
one day stream at FOSS4G-2010 dedicated to CCIP-2010 where
participants could expose their work in more detail. We have
yet to have this conversation with both communities though.
We are also aiming for significantly higher sponsorship dollars.

CCIP would bring in more revenue to FOSS4G in participants
alone, exposing (some) to FOSS4G perhaps for the first time.
It will also bring in revenue from Conference facilities etc.
There will also be a great additional stream of marketing for
FOSS4G-2010.

Strategically, FOSS4G will be seen as great community
partners of OGC and in doing something positive in the
Climate arena to try and make systems interoperable and to
help ensure that the real 'numbers' are available for
scrutiny via open standards.

I anticipate that the lessons learned will come out of the
SWOT analysis.

One thing that we would like to pursue with greater vigour
this year is to how to get greater Open Source spatial
participation in the event.

One idea that I'm pursuing is the idea of CCIP Participant
partnerships between science communities and spatial
communities / vendors. We should be able to achieve this if
we target the scenarios right. This may give OS Communities
the opportunity to get involved via a 'science' sponsor,
perhaps an organisation like my own.

Anyway, these are preliminary thoughts that need to be worked
through with the relevant communities.

Bruce
Hi Bruce, glad to here you've recovered enough ;)

For me the CCIP process was a bit opaque - could you give
Lorenzo and the rest of us an overview on the main benefit of
running the process? e.g. how did it add value to the FOSS4G
event - both subjectively and financially. And how much work
did it require from someone on the LOC?

Also, do you have any sort of "lessons learned" compiled
anywhere?

Thanks! G'day,
Tyler
Lorenzo,

hi all,
we've been revisiting the contents of the prospectus.
We've set up prices and other details.

there's still a couple of things, mostly about refining

contents and using

proper English, that should be done.

we invite you all to contribute, in the wiki or in
this list.

the revision time will be until next monday then
we'll pass

the content to

the designer for the final layout.

here's the content of the prospectus:

http://wiki.osgeo.org/wiki/FOSS4G_2010_Sponsorship_and_Exhibitor_Prosp

ectus>

Lorenzo

I've had a quick look at the Prospectus.

For CCIP-2009, we found that trying to get CCIP
sponsorship for
participants via the Conference Organiser and also OGC

didn't work and

was just plain confusing for potential participants.

The FOSS4G CCIP sponsorship package offered very little to

potential

sponsors.

In the end, we assigned the responsibility for obtaining

sponsorship

dollars to the OGC.

The money that the OGC raised helped run the CCIP project.

A substantial portion of the major CCIP Sponsor's funding

came back to

FOSS4G for booth, conference etc fees.

I can give you these figures off line.

In short, I'd leave the CCIP sponsorship arrangements with

the OGC and

negotiate suitable costs depending on CCIP-2010
requirements.

I'd say that you will be getting people attending

FOSS4G-2010 just to

see the results of CCIP-2010. We will need to ensure that

there is a

definite programe of interest presented. So there will be

additional

return there as well.

Bruce
