Not sure I agree with the Joe and Adena's views of the state of FOSS here though, I think your perception may just depend on the circles you move in! But certainly think there is a big potential audience for introductory material so we will make sure we provide that, as well as lots more heavyweight content too, of course.

Re the community voting, we do plan to do that again (as was done last year with a similar number of abstracts). I agree there are pros and cons to this, will see how it works this year and I think it's worth more discussion about whether to continue it next year. As in previous years, the results will be a guideline to the committee, they will have scope to make adjustments to get a good spread of topics / products etc.

On Mon, Apr 18, 2011 at 11:18 AM, Tyler Mitchell <tmitchell@osgeo.org> wrote:

On 2011-04-18, at 3:12 AM, Seven (aka Arnulf) wrote:
> Therefore it might be helpful to actively design track that focuses on the needs of this clientele.

There's a whole day already dedicated :)

http://2011.foss4g.org/intro-details/

But I bet there will end up being more in the main program too._______________________________________________

Foss4g2011-private mailing list
Foss4g2011-private@lists.osgeo.org
http://lists.osgeo.org/mailman/listinfo/foss4g2011-private
