[Foss4g2012] Re: [OSGeo-Conf] FOSS4G 2012 web site

Hi to the FOSS4G 2012 team in Beijing, I hope all is going well.

I have received several emails in the last few days from people inquiring
about the web site for the 2012 conference. It continues to be very
confusing and contains a lot of information from the 2011 conference,
including the full schedule for 2011. I think it is very important to get
this cleaned up very quickly (the note below was from a month ago but I
haven't seen any change to the items mentioned there). Several people who
wrote to me expressed concerns about whether they would attend the
conference because of the lack of good information, and the fact that the
call for papers hasn't gone out yet.

We really need to get the dates and information relating to abstract
submission, paper selection, etc on the site as soon as possible. Currently
under "important dates" on the home page it has none of this - it says
"Onsite registration opens this Sunday September 9th" and "Online program
now available".

As always, I and other members of the community are happy to help where we
can, let us know if there are things we can do. But it really is getting
urgent to get a good web site up (a single page summarizing plans would be
better than the current confusing mix of information from last year), and
have clear communication about plans for the conference, otherwise I think
we risk losing a lot of attendees.

Cheers,
    Peter.
