<font><font face="verdana,sans-serif"><span style="font-family:georgia,serif">Hi, list</span><br><br style="font-family:verdana,sans-serif"><span style="font-family:verdana,sans-serif">The Beijing LOC team, </span></font></font><font style="font-family:verdana,sans-serif" size="2">together with some volunteers, has regular meetings on Tuesday evenings (7:00pm local, 11:00am UTC). The following is a short report on the last meeting. More similar (weekly) reports are planned for future meetings. Please note that I'm not a member of the LOC, so this one should not be considered as official.<br>
<br>The Beijing team is contacting 3S News, a company which is very experienced in organizing geospatial-related conferences. If everything goes well, FOSS4G 2012 will receive professional conference organizing support soon.<br>
<br></font><font style="font-family:verdana,sans-serif" size="2">The LOC is working on a detailed list of tasks that can be done by non-LOC volunteers and how many are needed for each task. The tasks are already listed, so it won't take long.<br>
<br></font><font style="font-family:verdana,sans-serif" size="2">The LOC has a list of potential keynoters/lightening_talkers/presenters and has already e-mailed some of them. A report on their responses will follow.<br>

The people who are in charge of the website are aware of the issues reported, and are working with <a href="http://mymova.com">mymova.com</a>, which hosts the website, to get the problems fixed. Simple issues like encoding should be solved within a few days.<br>
<br>The LOC will give their FOSS4G 2012 programs plan (not final) in 2-3 weeks. A simple draft may be available earlier.<br><br>An official Twitter account will be set up for updates and announcements. The LOC also plans to use similar popular-in-China services to reach the locals.<br>
<br>Previous meetings were done privately using Skype. Future meetings </font><font style="font-family:verdana,sans-serif" size="2">(in English) </font><font style="font-family:verdana,sans-serif" size="2">are planned to be moved to the public IRC channel </font><font style="font-family:verdana,sans-serif" size="2"><a href="http://freenode.net">freenode.net</a> #osgeo</font><font style="font-family:verdana,sans-serif" size="2">. This should help to </font><font style="font-family:verdana,sans-serif" size="2">increase transparency</font><font><font face="verdana,sans-serif"><span style="font-family:verdana,sans-serif"> and to get more volunteers joining the force.
