I agree with Marc. The LOC are the good guys, you are trying to run a successful community event, you aren’t running a Nigerian mail scam or trying to plant viruses.

The norm in the UK is that it s legitimate to mail someone if they have ‘previously expressed interest’ and I would say that attending a previous FOSS4G etc counts as having expressed interest. The important thing is to have a way for people who don’t want to receive our mail to opt out and MailChimp does that pretty elegantly

I wish their was a way to switch off one or two of the unthinking noisy voices on mailing lists (others might feel the same way about me though)
