From gstein at appgeo.com Tue Aug 1 11:36:28 2017 From: gstein at appgeo.com (Guido Stein) Date: Tue, 01 Aug 2017 18:36:28 +0000 Subject: [FOSS4G2017] FOSS4G 2017 Code Sprint Message-ID: Hello everyone, I am really pleased with how the Code Sprint is coming along this year, I think it will be a lot of fun and a great way to advance project goals. If you have not been to a code sprint before, it's an informal gathering that allows OSGeo projects to get together fase to face and try to take on some project goals. The whole event is self organizing through the OSGeo wiki. Couple of notes I wanted to share with everyone: - LocationTech(LT) will be hosting a code sprint in conjunction with the FOSS4G 2017 Code Sprint. The OSGeo and LT communities and projects are very close and this is a great way to work together. - LT will be sponsoring food - Please update the wiki with your information ASAP, we would like to get a head count for catering by the end of the week. - I am interested in working on a local chapter/event sprint working with those interested in community organizing. While not a specific project, it feels like this could be a good use of the time. For all the details and to participate with the code sprint, please use this email list and update the wiki here: https://wiki.osgeo.org/wiki/FOSS4G_2017_Code_Sprint See you all in a couple of weeks, Guido -- This e-mail message and any attachments may contain confidential or legally privileged information. I am very passionate about advancing my Java skill everyday, is this code sprint also suite for people like me who hasn't used GeoTools very often? Thanks, Zhenyang ------- Hi there, The code sprint is generally about bug killing, documentation, and releases. It is project focused, as listed on the wiki. This can also be a great way to get involved for the first time with a project. Most projects have need for people to work on multiple types of tasks, so the more people who can jump in and try to help, the better. That said, to be clear, this is not a training or workshop like event. It really is about getting things done, but sometimes the thing that needs to get done is to bring others onto the team. I hope this helped, also, would it be ok if I reposted this chat with the list serve, this is a great discussion to have in the open. I am sure many people have useful information to add to my understanding. Open source lists are all about teachable moments/content creation so people can find these discussions in the future. -Guido Finally, please help us get a good headcount, if you are planning to attend, please add your name to the wiki here ( https://wiki.osgeo.org/wiki/FOSS4G_2017_Code_Sprint). If you run into any issues please feel free to ping this discussion list further, I am sure someone should be able to assist.
