Comment:

 It is as designed, because the box (rectangle) is a handler for Map
 widget, if the cursor moved out of current map, moved to the toolbar for
 example, the box will disappeared. For the same reason, if the cursor
 moved to the  overview map widget, the box should be removed.
 There's a workaround-  Moving the overview map widget out of current map
 widget, then it will not interfere the box dragging.
