Hello group:
I am working on a masters thesis in GIS at Penn State. The objective is
to use open source web mapping and create a howto for others to follow,
which includes installing Linux, apache, PostGIS, MapServer, etc. I
have been working in Linux and open source only for a few months and
find this very challenging, but fun and addictive! I am not a
programmer but have one readily available. I have started a howto which
is located at http://www.source3.com/capstone/capstone.php.
I want to take my current web map (webgis.source3.com) using OpenLayers
and move it into Fusion. Furthermore, it is my understanding that I do
not need to install Mapguide OS since I will be using Fusion for MapServer.
I have two development machines running Ubuntu Server and HostLinux. I
also have a server at HostGIS which runs the HostLinux package
(Slackware, MapServer, Apache, GeoServer, PostGIS, etc).
I have followed the howto at
http://trac.osgeo.org/fusion/wiki/MapServerTutorial on my two
development machines and my server at HostGIS. I get the same results,
a web page without a map or widgets (toolbars), title block only, as
shown at demo.source3.com (http://216.93.173.156/demo).
Any assistance is much appreciated. I have searched the user groups
and have not figured out my problem.
In return, I will create documentation from installing Linux, PostGIS,
MapServer, Fusion, Apache, etc for others to follow. I want to
eliminate the need to visit four plus websites to look for information.
Lastly, I need to present my thesis at a conference. Thinking Foss4G 2009!
Thanks for the help.
