Hmm.  I wonder how far down this path you'd get before people wanted a
full templating language (case statements, string formatting, etc).  

 

Wouldn't it be better to apply the same JS-based overrides to the MapTip
that have been employed for the legend and search results?  Guess this
would somehow need to be layer-based...

Some extensions data in appdef could reference a html / xml template.
Something like a  "feature template" that is pushed into the targeted
maptip div and yes replacements are fired. a splendid idea. it can be as
simple as one line or as long as a page. 

Anyone else have any two cents?
