hi, i maintain a private debian package of gdal. make install prefix=/my/tmp/dir/usr accomplishes much of what it is needed by a packager without the need to change the Makefiles. the only real problem is the python module (no $prefix for it), DESTDIR support for that would be nice. cheers, alessandro
