woops! my fault. my memory retained '#!/$SOMETHING' and i
arbitrarily gave the SOMETHING a reasonable value... :-/

Norman is right on the use of /usr/bin/env (so the script runs
with the same enviroment as the calling shell) and gdal does already
the right thing.
