[Gdal-dev] Reading DEMs

Hi!

I have a question concerning the import and reading of DEM files (USGS
ASCII). 
Is it possible to read the real DEM corner coordinates, and not the
corners of the rectangle that contains the "tilted" DEM?
Furthermore, can just the real DEM information be read in? And not the
coveredge information that is not defined?
