could you put a remark on this in the GDAL's "./configure --help" output?

so far it is not saying that --with-grass is supposed only for >=5.7:

./configure --help | grep GRASS
  --with-grass=ARG      Include GRASS support (ARG=GRASS install tree dir)
  --with-libgrass=ARG    Include GRASS support based on libgrass (GRASS 5.0)
